Gas stoves and induction stoves are two of the most popular cooking appliances today. However, many people are still unsure whether to choose a gas stove or an induction stove. The cost of use is one of the key factors that influence consumers’ purchasing decisions.
A study has shown that to boil 1 liter of water, a gas stove takes 4 minutes and 24 seconds, while an induction stove only takes 2 minutes and 58 seconds. The induction stove consumes 0.1 KW of electricity, while the gas stove consumes 17g of gas.
The efficiency of an induction stove is very high, reaching up to 90%, with only 10% of the heat escaping into the environment. This means that most of the heat generated by the induction stove is used to heat the bottom of the pot and cook the food.
In contrast, the efficiency of a gas stove is only about 40%, with 60% of the energy being lost to the surrounding environment. To cook food, a gas stove must consume energy to heat the air, the grate, and the bottom of the pot before it impacts the food. Therefore, cooking with an induction stove is not only faster but also more economical compared to using a gas stove.
In reality, both types of stoves have their own pros and cons.
Induction stoves are considered safer and more user-friendly compared to gas stoves. The main reason is that the flame from a gas stove can easily spread to nearby objects, leading to the risk of fire or explosion. Additionally, if the gas valve is not properly closed, gas leakage can occur, posing a danger.
On the other hand, induction stoves have an automatic shut-off feature when they are overloaded, preventing the risk of gas leaks and fire. Additionally, the surface of the induction stove doesn’t get hot on the outside, reducing the risk of burns if accidentally touched.
Cleaning a gas stove usually takes more time because there are many gaps and crevices that need to be cleaned. The oil and grease that accumulate on the surface of a gas stove can cause rust and damage parts like the glass rim and stove grates, affecting the aesthetic of the kitchen. In contrast, induction stoves are designed with a flat glass surface, making them much easier to clean and maintain.
Induction stoves have a higher initial investment cost compared to gas stoves. Additionally, when using an induction stove, you need to have pots and pans that are compatible with induction cooking, whereas a gas stove can be used with any type of pot.
Therefore, in terms of initial cost, using an induction stove might be more expensive than a gas stove. However, when using an induction stove, you are dependent on electricity. Power outages can interrupt the cooking process, and induction stoves are not ideal for cooking dishes that require stable temperatures, such as stews or deep-frying. In conclusion, choosing between an induction stove and a gas stove depends on your cooking needs and your family’s financial situation.
